Directions on foot from Forest Hill Train Station:

The start: If you come in (from London Bridge) onto platform 2 at Forest Hill, there is a yellow gate just before you go up the crossbridge between the platforms. This is not always open, but it is the quickest way to get to Perry Vale. If it is open, go out that way and turn right at the bottom of the steps onto Perry Vale. You can then follow either set of directions below.

(If it isn’t open, exit the station via the ticket office on Platform 1 and turn left. Walk around W H Smith and down steps into underpass. Go underneath railway and turn right onto Perry Vale.)

The easy way: Keep walking (right) along Perry Vale, past the pub, the redbrick flats and the school, until you come to Sunderland Road (4th road on the left). We are five doors up on the right. 137 is the middle of five modern townhouses (beware, there’s also a 137A and 137B). It’s about a ten minute walk.

The quick way: Keep walking (right) along Perry Vale, walk past the pub (Foresters Arms) and turn left onto Church Vale. At the first crossroads, go straight across onto South Road. Keep going up across the next crossroads, past the large church on the left, and up to the end of the road. Turn right onto Sunderland Road and walk down the hill to No. 137 on the left. It’s the middle of five modern townhouses (beware, there’s also a 137A and 137B).

Using London Bridge Train Station

London Bridge train station is split into two sections. Forest Hill trains can go from either section (platform 5 or 8-16), which can be a problem for the unwary, so the best thing to do is to head for one of the sets of alphabetical screens to find the next platform for Forest Hill. If you are travelling to us before 5:00pm, start by heading for platforms 8-16 as more trains go from that side during the day.

There is one set of alphabetical screens by the front entrance near the ticket office (opposite Smiths) above the information desk, and another on the bridge crossing all the platforms (situated above Platforms 5 and 6). There is also a set of timetable screens above the escalator from the Tube (opposite platform 10).

Caterham trains usually stop at Forest Hill, some Crystal Palace trains, and some Victoria trains, but it’s best to check, as there are two routes.

Forest Hill is the fourth stop, and is about 12 minutes from London Bridge. Trains are usually about every 10 minutes up to 6:30pm.

Train times are available from Network Rail.
