"My Voice is, my Voice does..."
That's the overall title of our Masterteacher tour
down under - with the byline:
"if it's healthy, appropriate and repeatable, it's fine.”
We don't teach a method, everything we do is
geared towards the individual singer and their needs. That includes
where they perform, what they perform, how they
learn best and, of course, the physiology of vocal function.
As the needs of the two countries are slightly different, we have
(at the request of the organisers) devised two separate programme.
Let's start with:
ANATS Adelaide (SA) and Sydney (NSW)
programmes:
What's the task/Finding your best voice:
An approach for Teachers and Performers
Day 1:
The day begins with an opening question - What does a singer have to
do? We go into the multiple tasks that a singer has to deal with,
then over the next two days we break some of those tasks down for
the benefit of the singers we're working with, and the participants
of the conference.
We'll be focusing on how we train singers for different musical
styles, with interactive lectures, singer demonstrations and our
favourite, the Q&A.
We're also giving a masterclass and coaching sessions on Successful
Singing Auditions, based on some of the information in our second
book (and Jeremy's 8000+ auditions in the West End). The performance
decisions for each song can be changed to match different audition
needs (for which character, which show and which genre you are
auditioning).
Day 2:
Day 2 begins with an interactive section on putting
technique into performance. Which techniques suit which
songs/singers/situations? And how do you identify what's appropriate
for the performance?
The next part of the day is on the techniques and tools we use to
help the singer find their best - their best voice, their best
sound, their best performance (for that particular day). It's
interactive, it's a masterclass, and we're open to questions!

And the NEWZATS Wellington programme:
My Voice is... my Voice does...
Multi-genre vocal skills for teachers and performers
Day 1:
Day one begins with the question Does One Size Fit All? Is there
a single technique or set of techniques that will work for every
musical genre or style of singing?
We move on to a Hear-Feel-Do session, where we lead the participants
through a number of different vocal and musical style elements.
Then we'll be focusing on working with the child and adolescent
voice - The Singer In Every Child. And we'll be showing some of the
work we've included in the new Singing Express series for schools,
including the great new songs we commissioned for books 3 and 4 in
many different musical genres (musical theatre, pop, 'Disney', jazz,
world, rock, folk etc etc)
Day 2:
Day 2 will begin with an interactive session and masterclass on
vocal range and registers.
This is a subject very close to Gillyanne's heart as it was
curiosity about how singers working in 'non-classical' styles deal
with register transitions that set her off on her doctoral research.
We'll move on to a session called Mean What You Sing, which includes
the difference between diction and intelligibility. And we end the
day with a masterclass on Singing the Text.
Day 3:
Day 3 begins with a fun session on My Favourite Things, the
tools and techniques we each use the most. If you want to experience
Front Foot/Back Foot, Answers On A Postcard or moaning, this is the
one for you.
Then on to a multi-genre song-mapping masterclass - how to deal with
the different requirements of classical, musical theatre or pop
songs (amongst others). And how to sing the same song for different
job auditions...
And finally we finish with a practical session using elements from our
incredibly popular Belting Explained course - prepare to unleash
your inner vocal beast!
