Gillyanne Kayes to present on breath use at BVA 'Breathing and
Voice' seminar
Gillyanne Kayes,
author of Singing and the Actor, will be talking about ‘Breath use
in musical theatre and non-classical singing styles’ as part of the
British Voice Association ‘Breathing and Voice’ educational seminar.
Gillyanne said:
“Some singing styles
are less sustained than others, so breath use needs to be
appropriate to the task. In Musical Theatre, text is paramount, and
so the consonants will interrupt and change the flow of air. During
the seminar I shall be specifically covering the relationship
between breath use and the musical theatre and non-classical singing
styles.”
The ‘Breathing and Voice’ seminar offers an overall view of
breathing and its application in speech, classical singing and
musical theatre. The seminar includes a series of presentations
during the morning session and practical workshops in the afternoon.
Other presenters on
the day are:
Janice Chapman
(singing teacher, research associate)
Linda Hutchinson
(singing teacher, member of the Medway voice clinic team)
Liz McNaughton
(teacher and researcher in vocal development)
Moira Little
(clinical voice specialist, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary)
Catherine Owen
(Head of Voice, Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh)
The seminar is on 27
March 2004 at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in
Glasgow.
