Find out more about your own voice use, your own vocal patterns, and how to improve them
Bring your vocal challenges with you for personal, targeted solutions
Go deeper into the Singing and the Actor work with Gillyanne and Jeremy

If you've completed Singing and the Actor Training (or Vocal Process Core Training), then you're eligible to join us in October for the ADVANCED Training Retreat. On this Retreat we explore how things are interconnected, and how they change.

Testimonial: Loved the register work and getting around the piano listening to individuals and having Gillyanne and Jeremy's input.
AP, singing and movement teacher

The intensive ADVANCED Retreat will include the following:

HOW MUCH BREATH DO YOU USE?
One of the most contentious topics for singers - how much breath do you need and how do you find more (or less)?
On the ADVANCED Retreat you discover how much breath you need for different voice qualities, different parts of your range, different volumes and even different words.

THE MIX!

This is a highly confusing topic - what is "the mix" and how do we find it?
On this course you learn more than 20 different mixes - how to create different mixes in your voice, the three different places where you can change the mix, what mixes with what, and what happens when you get higher (or lower). And the most important question of all on mixes, what's the MIX based on (what's the defining factor)?

GEAR CHANGES

Everyone has gear changes (the passaggio, the register shift, the crossover point).

How many gear changes you have and where they are depends on how and what you sing. Discover different solutions for different musical styles. "Find them, Feature, them, Conceal them"

MIDDLE REGISTER

What is it, where is it, and how do you control it? Does it even exist? Get some answers to the issue that has befuddled singers and teachers alike (and consider the idea that there might be two entirely different middle registers...)

VOWELS AND CONSONANTS

You don't normally just sing "Ah".

Singing is about the balance between sound, words and emotions. Different style, different balance. Discover how different musical styles tackle this balance - opera, musical theatre, pop, jazz, folk etc etc

WHO'S THE SONG FOR?

Is it for you to enjoy or for the listener to experience (they both have their place).

Practise listener-focussed singing, discover the purpose of your songs, and identify the message you're delivering.

AND THE BESPOKE BIT!

There's a lot more happening on this course, but we can't tell you what it is because we're going to create it specifically for you after you arrive.

We are able to offer this unique "bespoke" section because we're only accepting 8 people, and we've set aside time to work with you on your specific problems. We have more than 40 years of problem solving and knowledge at our fingertips, and we'll both be on hand to clarify your own vocal practice, and answer your burning questions.

BOOK NOW, BEFORE ALL THE PLACES GO!

We'll be starting on Friday evening at 5.30pm, and finishing on Sunday at 5.00pm. The ADVANCED Retreat will take place at our home in Presteigne, so there should be no interruptions and no "family challenges", just peace, focus and good food.

The cost for the ADVANCED Retreat is £447.00 which includes refreshments, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. We can send you details of travel and accommodation, we can meet certain trains at Leominster, and parking spaces are available if you want to drive.

Testimonial: I enjoyed the group (dynamics and size) very much and also the opportunity you gave us to sort out “burning” issues in the masterclass and question sessions. Thank you also for your hospitality and looking after us in every way.  You make a wonderful team with your ever enquiring minds and knowledge.

The River Lugg running through our tranquil gardenPart of our tranquil gardenThe ADVANCED Retreat takes place in our home in Presteigne on the Welsh border (see the pictures to the right). Presteigne was recently voted one of the top ten small towns for quality of life in the UK by the Daily Telegraph. Our tranquil garden has a river running through it, and our quiet house gives exactly the right atmosphere for concentrated learning and relaxation. We use local produce including organic food hand picked for us from the farm three miles away, and low-food-miles produce wherever we can.
